Happy October, friends! I’m sharing the books I read last month in today’s blog post. I read some really good books this past month and some disappointments, too! Let’s jump right in.

Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting

I started off the month reading a book that I randomly saw online and the cover appealed to me. I’ve never read anything by Helena Hunting before, but when I posted this book on Instagram, several people told me they loved her books. I got really excited when I read this. I picked it up hoping it would be the next The Hating Game because I’m always on the lookout for a new favorite romance like THG. Sadly I didn’t love this one. It was a quick read, but not really the kind of romance I liked. I did enjoy the fact that the two main characters fell in love when they were in high school (or college-I can’t even remember!) and then reconnected years later. I’m a sucker for that kind of storyline. 

She was the Quiet One by Michelle Campbell

I couldn’t wait to read Michelle Campbell’s newest book that came out this year. I LOVED her first book from last year, It’s Always the Husband, but I loved this one even more. This is a story of twin sisters who are starting a new boarding school and one of the sisters ends up dead. Y’all this one is SOOO good!

Fight or Flight by Samantha Young

Just like with Good Luck Charm, I read an ARC of Fight or Flight thinking it would be like The Hating Game. I loved the first part of this story and had such high hopes, but the second part fell flat for me. It’s about a girl and a guy who meet on a flight and instantly feel an attraction towards each other, but they also kind of hate each other. 

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

I love to find a good Southern fiction story, so I immediately picked up a copy of Delia Owen’s book Where the Crawdads Sing. Then it was announced as Reese Witherspoon’s book club pick for September, which made me even more excited for it. I was worried this one would have too much descriptive writing and it did at times, but I absolutely LOVED the story and our main character, Kya. This is one of my favorites of the year. I highly recommend!!

Rush by Lisa Patton

Next I read our LaLa Life bookclub book for September: Rush by Lisa Patton. I really enjoyed this one. It helped me of The Help. It’s about a southern sorority at Ole Miss and it deals with racism. It wasn’t a favorite or anything, but it had a really good message and I liked it. It wasn’t a quick read for me, but an important one

Evidence of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I randomly discovered that Taylor Jenkins Reid had a new short story available on Kindle Unlimited, so I immediately downloaded it. I LOVE TJR (although I didn’t love The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo or One True Loves-ironically her two most popular) so I was super excited to read this new story. I’m not a fan of short stories, so that probably was a big factor in my dislike for this one, but I just wasn’t a fan. The ending was a disappointment to me. 

An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena

And lastly I read the newest thriller form Shari Lapena. Shari Lapena is one of my go to authors when it comes to thrillers, so I was super excited for this one. Sadly I didn’t love it. I thought it was going to be good when I first started reading it, but then it just got boring and redundant. It felt like one big novel of Clue only with no butler to blame it one. I wasn’t a fan of this one, but I still recommend her other two, The Couple Next Door and A Stranger in the House.
