August Book Reviews

Books· books 2016· Uncategorized

Happy September, friends! It’s been so so long since I’ve done a proper monthly book review post,  and I’m so sorry! I’m back with some August book reviews and then later this week I’ll be posting reviews for June and July, so get ready! 🙂
August is usually my busiest month and because of that I normally don’t get a lot of reading done, but that didn’t happen this time. I read 8 books this past month and enjoyed most of them! Let’s recap my reading month. 🙂

All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover
Colleen Hoover’s newest book came out in July, so I immediately grabbed a copy and started reading it. I finished it on August 1st, so even though I started reading this one in July, I’m including it in August’s wrap up since that’s when I finished it.
I won’t say this one didn’t hold my attention. It definitely did. It was one that I could not put down and I was constantly thinking about it when I wasn’t reading it, but I just didn’t really enjoy it. I don’t want to go into what it was about because I think that’s spoiling the book, but the topic just wasn’t for me. I think I am in the minority on this one because so many people are loving it. It just wasn’t for me. It had the serious tone that It Ends With Us had and I felt the same way about it. It left me wanting to read a happy, peppy book next.
Rating: 3 STARS

Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren
I was lucky enough to be sent an ARC of Christina Lauren’s newest from Gallery books and I squealed when it arrived in my mail. Y’all, this book was the BEST! I have never had much luck with Christina Lauren books until I read Love and Other Words back in the spring and I fell in love with it. I had high hopes that JAHGTND was going to be like it and it was! This was just a feel good sweet little love story about two friends that are trying their best to date other people and not to fall in love with each other. I smiled the entire time I was reading this one. Highly highly recommend!

The Life Lucy Knew by Karma Brown
I’m a sucker for a good “lost memory” story, so I knew I had to pick up Karma’s Brown’s latest book. I really enjoyed this one even though it wasn’t as entertaining or light hearted as I had hoped. I still enjoyed What Alice Knew by Liane Morarity more, although I did really like this one!
Rating: 3.75 STARS

Not So Nice Guy by RS Grey
If you’ve been following my reading habits for a while now, you’ll know I love a good romance story and R.S. Grey is one of my go to authors when I need a light and easy love story. Her newest release is my absolute favorite of hers! If you love romance books, definitely try RS Grey. Her books are free if you have Kindle Unlimited.
Rating: 5 STARS

The Simple Wild by KA Tucker
KA Tucker is an author that I always look forward to reading. She writes such entertaining, can put down books and this one was no exception. In fact, it’s probably my favorite book of hers. It’s about a city girl who goes to Alaska to be with her father when he becomes sick.
Rating: 4.5 STARS

Blind Kiss by Renee Carolino
Oh man, Renee Carlino is an author that I either LOVE or HATE, so I was really nervous going into her new book, Blind Kiss, but y’all, this one is my new FAVORITE RC book! I did have some issues with the ending that prevented it from being a 5 star read for me, but I still loved it and highly recommend it!
Rating: 4 STARS

The Cheerleaders by Kara Thomas
I finished my August reading with a book that has been on my TBR for months and I LOVED it! The Cheerleaders is a YA thriller about a group of cheerleaders who all die within a few weeks and then 5 years later the sister of one of the girls starts to question everything…
Rating: 4 STARS
Okay, that’s what I read in August! What did you read? Have you read any of these? I’d love to hear your thoughts! 🙂

I also read BLIND KISS, ALL YOUR PERFECTS and SIMPLE WILD. Simple was a 5 star for me! I agree with the other two's ratings. Blind Kiss just had an ending that was a little rushed for me.

What I read this week 🩷📖 It took me all wee What I read this week 🩷📖

It took me all week to read The Favorites by Layne Fargo, which usually means I’m not loving a book, but I’m thrilled that’s not the case with this book! It was just a super busy week for me so I didn’t read as much every day as I wanted, but I absolutely LOVED this book! It releases January 14, so mark your calendars now! I don’t even love figure skating/ ice dancing (honestly I’ve never even heard of this) and I still was obsessed with this book. Highly highly recommend!

Thanks for my early review copy, @atrandombooks

Synopsis:

She might not have a famous name, funding, or her family’s support, but Katarina Shaw has always known that she was destined to become an Olympic skater. When she meets Heath Rocha, a lonely kid stuck in the foster care system, their instant connection makes them a formidable duo on the ice. Clinging to skating—and each other—to escape their turbulent lives, Kat and Heath go from childhood sweethearts to champion ice dancers, captivating the world with their scorching chemistry, rebellious style, and roller-coaster relationship.

Until a shocking incident at the Olympic Games brings their partnership to a sudden end.

As the ten-year anniversary of their final skate approaches, an unauthorized documentary reignites the public obsession with Shaw and Rocha, claiming to uncover the “real story” through interviews with their closest friends and fiercest rivals. Kat wants nothing to do with the documentary, but she can’t stand the thought of someone else defining her legacy. So, after a decade of silence, she’s telling her story: from the childhood tragedies that created her all-consuming bond with Heath to the clash of desires that tore them apart. Sensational rumors have haunted their every step for years, but the truth may be even more shocking than the headlines
