October 2022 Book Reviews

Books

I’m a little late with my October book reviews, but here they are! If you’ve been following these monthly wrap ups, you’ll know my reading here lately hasn’t been that great. I only read 6 books in October (I normally read around 8-9) but I really enjoyed most of them, so I feel that’s a good sign that my reading is starting to turn around!

Here’s what I read last month:

Verity by Colleen Hoover

Add to Goodreads/Purchase on Amazon

I read Verity when it was first released in 2018. It was during a very busy time for me, so I didn’t remember anything about it. EVERYONE has been talking about this book, and I wanted to reread it so I could remember what I thought about it.

When I started reading the book, I thought I would begin to remember the plot, but I never did! It was basically like reading it for the first time. There are parts I didn’t love, but man was I captivated by this story! And then I went and read the bonus chapter. WHAT?!?! It is insane! Loved this book!

Rating: 5 stars

When in Rome by Sarah Adams

Add to Goodreads/Purchase on Amazon

I was so excited about a new Sarah Adams book. I read The Cheat Sheet last year and really loved it. It was a little cheesy, as was this book, but sweet and swoony nonetheless. If you like celebrity/ small town rom coms, you’ll like this one!

Rating: 4.5 stars

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

Add to Goodreads/Purchase on Amazon

Even though Halloween is over, I would still recommend The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches! This is a great fall read. It’s like a cozy hug in book form. I absolutely loved this quirky and cozy book.

Rating: 4.75 stars

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager

Add to Goodreads/Purchase on Amazon

I had been waiting to read Lock Every Door during the month of October and I was not disappointed! It has mixed reviews so I was worried about where I would fall, but I loved it! There was one important detail that was left unsolved at the end, and that made me really mad, but other than that, I loved it!

Rating: 4 stars

Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match

Add to Goodreads/Purchase on Amazon

Sadly I was not a fan of Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match. I love Sally Thorne, but this was just not for me. I found it odd and boring. Really odd. It took me over a week to read and I ended up skimming the last 50 pages just so I could finish. 🙁

Rating: 2 stars

Built to Last by Erin Hahn

Add to Goodreads/Purchase on Amazon

I was SO shocked by how much I loved Built to Last. What an incredibly swoony story about two child stars who reunite when they go to work on an HGTV-style fixer-upper show. This was everything I loved in a book, and I cannot wait for the second one to come out. I’m sure Erin Hahn was tired of me DMing her while I read this book. LOL I LOVED it!

What I read this week 🩷📖 It took me all wee What I read this week 🩷📖

It took me all week to read The Favorites by Layne Fargo, which usually means I’m not loving a book, but I’m thrilled that’s not the case with this book! It was just a super busy week for me so I didn’t read as much every day as I wanted, but I absolutely LOVED this book! It releases January 14, so mark your calendars now! I don’t even love figure skating/ ice dancing (honestly I’ve never even heard of this) and I still was obsessed with this book. Highly highly recommend!

Synopsis:

She might not have a famous name, funding, or her family’s support, but Katarina Shaw has always known that she was destined to become an Olympic skater. When she meets Heath Rocha, a lonely kid stuck in the foster care system, their instant connection makes them a formidable duo on the ice. Clinging to skating—and each other—to escape their turbulent lives, Kat and Heath go from childhood sweethearts to champion ice dancers, captivating the world with their scorching chemistry, rebellious style, and roller-coaster relationship.

Until a shocking incident at the Olympic Games brings their partnership to a sudden end.

As the ten-year anniversary of their final skate approaches, an unauthorized documentary reignites the public obsession with Shaw and Rocha, claiming to uncover the “real story” through interviews with their closest friends and fiercest rivals. Kat wants nothing to do with the documentary, but she can’t stand the thought of someone else defining her legacy. So, after a decade of silence, she’s telling her story: from the childhood tragedies that created her all-consuming bond with Heath to the clash of desires that tore them apart. Sensational rumors have haunted their every step for years, but the truth may be even more shocking than the headlines
