ANOTHER Classroom Update!

My seventh Meet Your Teacher Night is officially in the books and I am exhausted! I did a few last minute decorating details today that I wanted to share with y’all! I’m a little behind on answering questions so bare with me! I’ll reply, I promise! 🙂

We will soon begin close reading, so I went ahead and displayed our chart. Be sure and pick up my Close Reading Toolkit freebies here! I love using these because they add a little extra fun to close reading and make it a little more special. 

I really want to encourage my kids to read and I thought showcasing different celebrities and athletes reading would motivate some! 

I’m so happy with the way this area turned out! I use a section of the first Harry Potter book in a characterization lesson so that’s where the charts come from. Let me know if you want to know more about how I use HP to teach skills!

I really want to understand how my kids view reading, so I made this chart. I plan on doing this again at the end of the year to see if any one has changed their minds…hopefully so! 🙂

Don’t mind those cords…That’s tomorrow’s project! I realized when I opened a cabinet today that I had a huge stack of books that I hadn’t shelved! You can never have too many books! I keep multiple copies of favorites on top. I like having extras of popular books like The One and Only Ivan because so many request it, but I also really want to start incorporating these books into small group meetings. 

Blank cabinets no more! My goal was to paper these to hide the yucky brown color, but I simply ran out of time. I’m trying to not let it bother me! 🙂

  2. I would love to know more about how you use HP in your classroom. It is my favorite book, so my classroom is themed Harry Potter and it is one of my first read aloud throughout the year. I plan on using Notice and Note with it this year, but would love more ideas!

    • Harry Potter is my absolute favorite series! I would LOVE to have a HP room! I'm working on a post now and will share next week! 🙂

  4. I would also love to hear more about using Harry Potter. I always tell the kids to try new genres because they might not realize they like it, and my example is reading Harry Potter for a college lit course. It reminded me that I love Fantasy. Also, where did you find the celebrity posters?

  8. A Harry Potter lesson sounds awesome! My students shy away from them sometimes because they are so thick, but if I used it as an intro to something else, maybe it would catch their interest and supersede their fear of its length? I love all your stuff: I haven't been blogging but two weeks and I think I've already referenced your TPT and blog twice!

    • Yay!!! You'll love blogging! Yes, I totally agree that lots of my students won't pick it up because of the size. I'm hoping to overcome that this year! 🙂

    I'm a new 5th grade math teacher (an old math teacher, new to 5th) and so I'm frantically reading all I can about these fun and interesting 10 year olds and how to help them learn.

    Things should be interesting this year!
