Are your students struggling to pay attention while you’re trying to teach? I have a simple and effective solution for you!
Student engagement can be a headache and a major issue at times, so I love creating fun little ways of getting kids to stay motivated throughout certain lessons.
This strategy is called the eraser club.
This activity is super simple and requires little prep. All you do is print out one card for every student you have. Laminate them and place a card on each desk. Whenever you see a student trying hard or going above and beyond in a lesson, place an eraser on their card.
You can either play “competitive mode” where the student or group that has the most erasers at the end of the lesson wins, or you can simply celebrate those who have made it into the eraser club!
I always get asked whether the students keep the erasers or if they must return them at the end of the lesson. That’s up to you, of course! I’ve done it both ways before. I usually take the erasers up and award the winner or winning group with another type of prize like extra free time or candy. Whatever works for you and your classroom!
You can try out this student engagement strategy with this freebie, but if you want the year-long seasonal eraser club version, you can find it here!
