Happy New Year! Our little online book club is going to look a little different this year, and I am so excited about these changes! I think this is going to be a fun way to offer a few more opportunities for reading each month instead of limiting everyone to one or two choices.
This year each month will have a theme and you will use this theme in order to select what book you want to read for the club. Now, if you’re someone who likes to read the same book as someone else so you can discuss it, you’ll have that option too.
Each month, I’ll select a book that I will be reading in order to fit the theme. You can read along with me, or choose your own book.
If you’re having trouble thinking of a book that would fit the theme, I’ll provide a list with each book club announcement.
I really think this could be a good way to actually read some of the books sitting on our TBRs. It also solves the problem of having already read the monthly selection and not being able to participate in the club for that month.
So, January’s theme is…
Winter Nights
You can interpret this however you wish when it comes to selecting a book.
Books that take place during the night in the winter
Books that have a wintery cover
Books that take place at night
Books that have winter or night-related words (i.e. dark, cold, snow, etc.)
You can even really stretch the theme and choose a book that has blue on the cover because blue symbolizes cold, snowy weather or choose a book that contains the word dream because you dream at night. LOL. The goal is to find a book on your TBR that fits, so don’t stress if it doesn’t follow the theme exactly.
For this month, I will be reading:
The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James.
How does it fit? It contains the word cold!
This has been on my TBR for the longest. I am so excited to finally get to it! You can order the book here. I’m also going to be using the Once Upon a Book Club box as I read. I LOVE this book subscription service. The Book of Cold Cases box is still available if you want to purchase it. You can use my code LALALIFE10 for 10% off.

What do you do once you’ve selected your book?
Now it’s time to read! If you’re planning on reading the same book I’ve selected for the month, I’ll post on my Instagram and TikTok when I start the book and we can chat in the comments or through DMs.
I’m also planning on either going live on IG at the end of the month or having a Zoom call where we can all chat about the book. I’ll keep you posted on that!
Who’s excited about the book club?? I cannot wait!
