March 2022 Book Reviews

Books

This past month I read 8 books and almost all of them were 4/5 star reads. It was a great reading month for me, and I can’t wait to share everything I read.

White Ivy by Susie Yang

Amazon/Goodreads

I was extremely busy during the beginning of the month, so I was worried about picking up White Ivy. Normally when I have a lot going on, I can only concentrate on light rom coms, but I could not put this book down. I was constantly thinking about it. It was such a good read. It reminded me of Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld, but also Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll (even though the plot is entirely different). Ivy is one of the most interesting characters I’ve ever read. I still think about her actions even though it’s been over a month since I read the book. I highly recommend this one!

My rating: 4.75 stars

Mr. Wrong Number by Lynn Painter

Amazon/Goodreads

Mr. Wrong Number is a rom com that I’ve been seeing rave reviews about for months. It was finally released around the first of March and I couldn’t wait for my copy to arrive. This one deserves all the hype it’s getting. The banter is so fun and the characters are a joy to read about. This one was exactly what I needed when life was busy, busy! It was cute, light, and quick!

Rating: 4 stars

The Lifestyle by Taylor Hahn

Amazon/Goodreads

I requested an ARC of The Lifestyle for 2 reasons:

  1. The cover is absolute perfection. It reminds me of a 1950s ad for a soda shoppe. Random, I know.
  2. It’s a retelling of Emma-like Clueless. Need I say more?

I didn’t expect to love this one as much as I did. It was a quick read that made me think, yet entertained me at the same time. It’s about a woman who catches her husband cheating on her with another lawyer at their firm. Instead of getting mad and getting a divorce, she decides they need to fix their marriage by becoming swingers. She ropes their entire friend group into the new “hobby” and chaos ensues. I loved this one for many reasons, but I really appreciated the main character and how strong she was. We need more of that kind of female representation in books!

Rating: 5 stars

Thank you for the early copy, Anchor Books!

The Beauty and the Baller by Ilsa Madden-Mills

Amazon/Goodreads

Let me start off my saying I’m not a fan of this cover or this title, but my negative thoughts stop there. This story was SO good! It’s about a girl who moves back to her small, football obsessed Texas town and discovers her next door neighbor is a former NFL star and current high school football coach-that she knows from back in the city! She becomes a teacher and then they start fake dating because the entire town is working to get him married to ensure he stays around. This was adorable! And it’s available on Kindle Unlimited!

Rating: 4.5 stars

Thanks for my early copy, Amazon!

The Golden Couple by Greer Henricks and Sarah Pekkanen

Amazon/Goodreads

I was a bit hesitant to pick up The Golden Couple because I haven’t always loved this author duo’s work. When I posted about the book in my IG stories, so many people told me to read it. I’m so glad I listened. This was a phenomenal book. It’s about a seemingly perfect couple who goes to marriage counseling after the wife admits to cheating on the husband. I was shocked by the twist! Such a great story!

Rating: 4.5 Stars

Thanks for my copy, St. Martin’s Press!

The Astronaut and the Star by Jen Comfort

Amazon/Goodreads

My only 3 star of the month sadly went to our romance pick for LaLa Life Book Club. I was so excited about The Astronaut and the Star. I’m a sucker for a story that involves a “normal” person falling for a celebrity. This had all the makings of a great romance, but I just couldn’t connect with it. I didn’t love the characters and it had way too much science/technical details that distracted me. You can read my full review here.

Rating: 3 stars

Thanks for my early copy, Amazon!

To Marry and to Meddle by Martha Waters

Amazon/Goodreads

I prepped for the new season of Bridgerton by reading Martha Waters’ newest book! I love this series so so much. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but they all feature the same characters. The first book is To Have and to Hoax. The second is To love and to Loathe, and this one, To Marry and to Meddle, comes out April 5. If you love historical romance, you’re going to love this one! Rating: 4.5 Stars

Thanks for my early copy, Atria Books!

A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham

Amazon/Goodreads

The last book I read during the month of March was our mystery/thriller pick for LaLa Life Book Club. I have a full review, which you can read here, so I won’t go into a lot of detail, but I LOVED this one so much! It was unputdownable and had a shocking twist. I did guess the main twist early on, but that didn’t hider my love for the story. I was still shocked by some parts, too!

Rating 4.5 stars

Thanks for my early copy, Minotaur Books!

I LOVED the Golden Couple. Read it in 2 days because I kept waiting for the next twist! So good! I liked White Ivy but I’m not sure I loved Ivy herself. I have several of the others listed on my TBR list!

It took me all week to read The Favorites by Layne Fargo, which usually means I’m not loving a book, but I’m thrilled that’s not the case with this book! It was just a super busy week for me so I didn’t read as much every day as I wanted, but I absolutely LOVED this book! It releases January 14, so mark your calendars now! I don’t even love figure skating/ ice dancing (honestly I’ve never even heard of this) and I still was obsessed with this book. Highly highly recommend!

Synopsis:

She might not have a famous name, funding, or her family’s support, but Katarina Shaw has always known that she was destined to become an Olympic skater. When she meets Heath Rocha, a lonely kid stuck in the foster care system, their instant connection makes them a formidable duo on the ice. Clinging to skating—and each other—to escape their turbulent lives, Kat and Heath go from childhood sweethearts to champion ice dancers, captivating the world with their scorching chemistry, rebellious style, and roller-coaster relationship.

Until a shocking incident at the Olympic Games brings their partnership to a sudden end.

As the ten-year anniversary of their final skate approaches, an unauthorized documentary reignites the public obsession with Shaw and Rocha, claiming to uncover the “real story” through interviews with their closest friends and fiercest rivals. Kat wants nothing to do with the documentary, but she can’t stand the thought of someone else defining her legacy. So, after a decade of silence, she’s telling her story: from the childhood tragedies that created her all-consuming bond with Heath to the clash of desires that tore them apart. Sensational rumors have haunted their every step for years, but the truth may be even more shocking than the headlines
