October was a HUGE reading month for me. The first part of 2019 was a struggle in terms of reading, but the second part is making up for it! I read 9 books in October, loved almost every one of them, and became so obsessed with a series that I couldn’t do anything else for a good week lol
Let’s chat about my October book reviews:
I started Never Never by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher at the end of September, but I didn’t finish it until the 1st or 2nd day in October. I had never heard of this book and I had no idea that these two authors wrote it together. Apparently it came out in three parts online, but then they made the parts into a book? I ordered it on Amazon is all I know lol
You can definitely tell it wasn’t written as a whole. The first part was brilliant and amazing-such a unique storyline. The second and especially third part felt different though-almost like the authors grew bored with the book and lost inspiration. It started out strong, but then quickly sizzled.

Oh goodness. Then we come to this series. I’ve had After sitting on my shelf for a good two or three years. I randomly saw it at Barnes and Noble and decided to try it. When I went to check out, a woman who works at the store and is always recommending books to me, said if I didn’t like it I could bring it back and she would give me a refund. I told her I had heard a lot about it and she said she hated it. I was curious, but then got sidetracked by other books or life and never picked it up.
Then this summer, I realized there was a movie of the book that was about to come out, so I decided to read it. This was at the same time as I was unpacking books and moving into my house and I could not find it anywhere. I figured I had gotten rid of it, so I just forgot about it.
Then I found it a few months later and since I was needing something quick to read this month, so I picked it up.
And I absolutely 100% hated it.
But I kept reading because I couldn’t stop.
I have never read a book that I hated as much as this one, but that I was also so obsessed with it. It’s over 500 pages, but I couldn’t read it fast enough. Y’all, this series took over my life and I am not exaggerating lol. I did nothing outside of going to work and then coming home and reading until bedtime. It consumed me.
And then I kept reading the other books….
Rating: I’m so confused by this book. I mean, I couldn’t put it down and it made me eventually read 1000+ pages, so you would think it would be 5 STARS for sure. BUT it’s also one of the stupidest books I’ve ever read and I kind of want to give it 1 STAR??? So confusing. :/
I strategically ordered the second book when I was in the middle of the first so it would be here when I finished and I wouldn’t have to wait. I purposely went home after school before going to my hair appointment so I could get it out of the mailbox and read while I was waiting. Book 2 ended up being my least favorite of the series, but that didn’t stop me from devouring it HA!
Rating: 4 STARS
After finishing the 800 page 2nd book, I moved onto book 3 even though I seriously considered stopping after book 2 because I really didn’t like it. I’m so happy I decided to stick with it because book 3 turned out to be my absolute favorite.
Rating: 5 STARS
Book 4 was also wonderful and ended the series perfectly. It was my second favorite book of the series.

Then there was this prequel/alternate POV story. I enjoyed it, but I skipped over some parts that really didn’t have anything to do with the Tessa/Hardin storyline. I definitely think you need to read this after you finish the series-don’t skip it! But don’t read it before the series or it won’t make sense.

After finishing the obsession of After, I knew I needed to read something I would 100% for sure love because it’s very easy to fall into a reading slump after you finish a long series that you basically lived lol. I was lucky enough to get an arc of Lauren Layne’s upcoming book, the third in the Central Park Pact series-Marriage on Madison Avenue. This one turned out to be my favorite in the series. It was SUCH a sweet love story between two friends that thought they could never be anything other than friends. I had been waiting for Audrey and Clarke’s story, and I wasn’t disappointed! I loved it!
If you want to start this story-although any can be read as stand alones- the first is called Passion on Park Avenue and the second book is called Love on Lexington Lane.
Rating: 5 STARS
Faker is a book that I’ve been waiting on since I first heard about it. I just love rom coms and with a cover like this one, I didn’t think there was any way it could be bad. And it wasn’t bad. But sadly it wasn’t good either. The first half started off really strong and I thought it was going to be a 5 star book, but the second half-when the characters finally got together- ended up being so boring for me. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it and I was glad when I finished it and could move onto something else.
