The Friday Five: 5 Books You Need to Read This Fall

Books

This Tuesday was the first official day of fall, but y’all know I’ve been in fall mode for a few weeks now, as evidenced by my fall living room and kitchen 🙂 For today’s post, I’m sharing 5 books that you should read this season. I’ve never been a huge mood reader, but for some reason this year I’m wanting all the coziness-including books! If you’re a mystery/thriller fan, be sure and check back next week for a list of spooky thrillers for October!

Let’s chat about these 5 cozy fall reads

Good Girls Lie by J.T. Ellison

This boarding school mystery is so perfect for fall. I read it back during January and remember thinking that it was such a fall feeling read. Good Girls Lie is about a group of students (and a few teachers) who all live at the Goode Boarding School. When a student turns up dead and hanging from a tree, everyone struggles to find the killer…and keep their secrets safe. So many theories went through my mind with this one. I was guessing until the very end. Plus, who doesn’t love a good boarding school story, right?

The Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller

The Widow of Rose House was my first historical fiction/romance book in a looooooong time and I absolutely loved it! It was my second book of 2020 and it helped me discover my love of the genre. This one involves a ghost, which has never been my thing, but it was surprisingly good. It also just has a cozy feel to it, making it a great fall read. If you read it, you’ll get it. 😉 It’s about a woman who is shamed for her first marriage so no one wants anything to do with her-except a curious (and handsome!) scientist. They work together to restore an old house-and discover some surprising spirits along the way!

She Was the Quiet One by Michelle Campbell

My favorite Michelle Campbell book, hands down, is She Was the Quiet One. This eerie story is about two sisters. One is killed at the beginning of the book and then you get to find out everything leading up to her death. Throughout the book you don’t know which sister is died and which did the killing. It’s got such a dark, somber feel to it- but in an unputdownable way!

All These Beautiful Strangers by Elizabeth Klehfoth

I read All These Beautiful Strangers two years ago and it quickly became one of my all time favorite books. There’s just something about this book that was spectacular. The writing is brilliant and the story is so captivating. Now there isn’t really anything that is necessarily fall about this book, but it is set at a boarding school and those just scream fall to me for some reason. It’s another one that has a mysterious/dark/somber tone to it, but you will fly through this book and won’t be able to put it down until you finish. It is seriously so good. It’s about a girl who is trying to join a secret society at school while also learning the truth about her mother’s disappearance and how her father was involved.

The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell

Lisa Jewell is one of my go to authors. I always look forward to a new LJ book and last year’s release is the perfect fall read! The Family Upstairs may even be my new favorite Lisa Jewell book. It’s about a woman who discovers her family belonged to a cult and died in their house when the main character was a baby. She reconnects with her brother and sister when they are all adults and they finally learn the truth about their parent’s lives. Of all the books on this list, this one is the most fall-ish to me. It just has that cozy vibe that makes you think of dark nights. Soooo good!

Have y’all read any of these? I’d love to hear your favorite fall reads. Again, remember to check back next week for some spooky thrillers to read during October!

What I read this week 🩷📖 It took me all wee What I read this week 🩷📖

It took me all week to read The Favorites by Layne Fargo, which usually means I’m not loving a book, but I’m thrilled that’s not the case with this book! It was just a super busy week for me so I didn’t read as much every day as I wanted, but I absolutely LOVED this book! It releases January 14, so mark your calendars now! I don’t even love figure skating/ ice dancing (honestly I’ve never even heard of this) and I still was obsessed with this book. Highly highly recommend!

Synopsis:

She might not have a famous name, funding, or her family’s support, but Katarina Shaw has always known that she was destined to become an Olympic skater. When she meets Heath Rocha, a lonely kid stuck in the foster care system, their instant connection makes them a formidable duo on the ice. Clinging to skating—and each other—to escape their turbulent lives, Kat and Heath go from childhood sweethearts to champion ice dancers, captivating the world with their scorching chemistry, rebellious style, and roller-coaster relationship.

Until a shocking incident at the Olympic Games brings their partnership to a sudden end.

As the ten-year anniversary of their final skate approaches, an unauthorized documentary reignites the public obsession with Shaw and Rocha, claiming to uncover the “real story” through interviews with their closest friends and fiercest rivals. Kat wants nothing to do with the documentary, but she can’t stand the thought of someone else defining her legacy. So, after a decade of silence, she’s telling her story: from the childhood tragedies that created her all-consuming bond with Heath to the clash of desires that tore them apart. Sensational rumors have haunted their every step for years, but the truth may be even more shocking than the headlines
