What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty
Let’s start with the most famous author on my list. Everyone know Liane Moriarty because of Big Little Lies, but the first book I read by this author was What Alice Forgot. I absolutely loved this story. It made me fall in love with the author’s writing and want to pick up her other books. It’s about a woman who falls on a treadmill while working out and hits her head. When she comes to, she can’t remember anything from the past 10 years. There are so many funny moments in this book, but also tons of character growth and relatable parts. It’s definitely a book you should check out if you loved Big Little Lies, The Husband’s Secret, or any other LM book!
We Could Be Beautiful by Swan Huntley
This next book is one that came out about 5 years ago…right around the time I started sharing books online, but I hardly ever heard it mentioned or talked about. And it should be! We Could Be Beautiful is a story about a woman who lives on the Upper East Side and has been surrounded by wealth her entire life. After experiencing two bad relationships, she has all but given up on love when she meets the perfect guy at an art opening. But when she actually becomes involved with him, she starts to discover that everything isn’t exactly perfect. We Could be Beautiful has gotten some bad reviews, but I personally loved this one! Plus, the cover is gorgeous! One of my all time favorite covers.
The After Party by Anton Disclafani
The After Party is a historical fiction read that is perfect for fans of Gossip Girl. This is like if Serena Van Der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf were alive in the South during the 1950’s. This book is about a gorgeous woman who has it all but needs a little help staying on track and reining in her wild side. Her best friend tries to help her…or does she?? I will say, I read this back before I really started to love historical fiction, so at the time I only gave it a 3.75 rating. BUT I’ve thought about this book so often over the years and I think if I read it again now that I appreciate HF much more, I would rate it higher. It’s the perfect historical fiction version of GG!
The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Hann
Jenny Hann is best known for writing To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, but her The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy is what made me fall in love with this author. This YA series is about a girl who has always vacationed with two brothers every summer because their moms are best friends. When the girl’s mom gets sick, they all have one more summer together at their shared beach house and everything changes when the girl develops feelings for one brother and the other brother develops feelings for her. SOOOOOO good! If you’re looking for an obsessive read, this one is it!
The Girl He Used to Know by Tracey Garvis Graves
The last book on my list is also the most recent release. I was excited to discover Tracey Garvis Graves was coming out with a new book a few years ago because I read her other book, On the Island, a LONG time ago and LOVED it! It was years before TGG wrote anything else, so when I found out about this new book, my hopes were HIGH! The Girl He Used to Know definitely lived up to the hype I had built up in my head! This is about a girl and a guy who reconnect after not seeing each other for ten years. There’s a detail that I didn’t pay attention to throughout reading this one that caused me to be shocked at the end. I LOVED this one so much. Highly, highly recommend it!
Be sure and check out my other Friday Five posts.
