The Friday Five: Favorite Books from Popular Authors

Books· featured

Happy Friday Saturday, friends! I had gate duty at our high school football game last night, so I didn’t have a chance to get this post up on time-hence the Saturday post! Better late than never!

For this week’s Friday Five topic, I’m sharing some of my favorite books from popular authors. There are SO many amazing authors that I’ve read multiple books from, but I tried to pick ones that y’all requested when I asked on Instagram. Many of y’all asked for my favorite Colleen Hoover but I didn’t include her in this list because I already have a Friday Five dedicated to my top 5 CH books that you can check out here.

For this list, I’m sharing my favorite books from:

Christina Lauren

Mary Kay Andrews

Shari LaPena

Taylor Jenkins Reid

Emily Giffin

Alright, let’s jump right in!

Christina Lauren is one of the queen’s of rom coms, but sometimes this writing duo misses the mark for me. Before Love and Other Words had come out, I wasn’t really a fan-yet I knew I had to keep trying them. When they wrote LAOW a few years ago, I truly fell in love with their writing and became a full fledged fan. This is the SWEETEST story about two friends that grew up together and start to develop feelings for each other when they are around 17 years old. Then something happens that causes them to not see each other for 10 years, but when they reconnect as adults, they realize they still have feelings (and issues!) CL is known for their steamy reads, but this one is more sweet than steam. I absolutely adore this book.

Mary Kay Andrews is my go to southern writer. There’s just something I love about a novel set in the south, but not written in an overly southern way (like Fried Green Tomatoes.) MKA has been around for a lonnnng time and I tend to prefer her older novels over her new releases. Save the Date is several years old, but it’s my all time favorite. Since I read it so long ago, I don’t really remember a lot about it. I do know it involves a wedding planner. And I remember loving the romance storyline in this book. Such a good read! Highly recommend. 🙂

Emily Giffin is an author that I’ve loved since high school, although we went through a bit of a breakup when she releases The One and Only (ugh, I hated that one!) For the last few years, I’ve fallen in love with her books again. When she released All We Ever Wanted a few years ago, I knew I had just read my favorite by her. This book is the story of a teen girl who lives with her dad. She develops a crush on a popular older kid at her school. The story revolves around the teens’ storyline as well as the parents’. It is SO good!

Shari LePena is one of my favorite thriller writers ever. I’ve read her books every year since she first wrote The Couple Next Door. The only one I haven’t loved was An Unwanted Guest. Last year’s book, Someone We Know, is my very favorite SL book. It’s about a neighborhood filled with people who have secrets. I LOVED how this one came together at the end. Such a good neighborhood thriller!

Taylor Jenkins Reid is best known for her newer books like The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones and the Six, but my favorite by her is one of her earlier book, Maybe in Another Life (although Daisy Jones is absolutely amazing!) Maybe in Another Life is such a unique story. It’s about a girl who meets a old flame one night. He asks her to meet him and she is faced with the choice of going or not. The book then breaks off into alternating chapters where she decides to go and she decides not to go. I loved how the reader can see how her life differs based on that one choice. The ending is perfect!

Have y’all read any of these authors? I’d love to her your favorites from them if you have!

What I read this week 🩷📖 It took me all wee What I read this week 🩷📖

It took me all week to read The Favorites by Layne Fargo, which usually means I’m not loving a book, but I’m thrilled that’s not the case with this book! It was just a super busy week for me so I didn’t read as much every day as I wanted, but I absolutely LOVED this book! It releases January 14, so mark your calendars now! I don’t even love figure skating/ ice dancing (honestly I’ve never even heard of this) and I still was obsessed with this book. Highly highly recommend!

Synopsis:

She might not have a famous name, funding, or her family’s support, but Katarina Shaw has always known that she was destined to become an Olympic skater. When she meets Heath Rocha, a lonely kid stuck in the foster care system, their instant connection makes them a formidable duo on the ice. Clinging to skating—and each other—to escape their turbulent lives, Kat and Heath go from childhood sweethearts to champion ice dancers, captivating the world with their scorching chemistry, rebellious style, and roller-coaster relationship.

Until a shocking incident at the Olympic Games brings their partnership to a sudden end.

As the ten-year anniversary of their final skate approaches, an unauthorized documentary reignites the public obsession with Shaw and Rocha, claiming to uncover the “real story” through interviews with their closest friends and fiercest rivals. Kat wants nothing to do with the documentary, but she can’t stand the thought of someone else defining her legacy. So, after a decade of silence, she’s telling her story: from the childhood tragedies that created her all-consuming bond with Heath to the clash of desires that tore them apart. Sensational rumors have haunted their every step for years, but the truth may be even more shocking than the headlines
