The Friday Five: My 5 Favorite Colleen Hoover Books

Books· featured

Hi friends! I’m back with a Friday Five post after taking a couple of weeks off. Back to School is always crazy busy, so I skipped a few Fridays. I’m currently reading Colleen Hoover’s newest book, Heart Bones, so I thought I’d share my favorite CH books with y’all. While working on this list, I realized I prefer her older books to her most recent ones. I’m anxious to finish Heart Bones and see where that one falls.

Here are my top 5 (in order) favorite Colleen Hoover books.

#5 It Ends With Us

This one could very easily be knocked off my list even though it’s probably everyone’s favorite. I don’t want to give too much away and spoil the book, so it’s hard to talk about my issue with it that prevents me from loving it as much as everyone else does. I flew through It Ends With Us and loved everything about it but the ending. I get that it dealt with a heavy topic and while I thought that part of it was handled incredibly well, I hated that it happened and that I had gotten so attached to a character and then it ended like that. I was just left feeling depressed and sad when I finished. And again, I know it was much more than a romance, but I felt like it was a romance all the way up until the end and then it just wasn’t. Which is probably why the topic was handled so well because that’s real life. But I understand everyone’s love for IEWU and I love it too. I just didn’t love feeling so sad afterwards.

#4 Hopeless

Hopeless was one of the first CH books I read-wayyyyy back in 2014. I didn’t realize a book could be so addicting, so Hopeless really stuck with me. It’s about a girl who meets a boy and realizes there’s something familiar about him. The direction this one went in completely shocked me. There’s a sequel called Losing Hope that’s also amazing.

#3 Verity

This was Colleen Hoover’s first mystery/thriller, so it’s very different from her other books. You either LOVE or HATE this one. I absolutely LOVED it. It’s about a writer who is hired to write for a woman who was in the middle of a book and cannot finish it. She moves into the house with the woman’s family and stuff happens. It’s insane.

#2 Ugly Love

Ugly Love was my very first CH book. I read it before I even started sharing book on Instagram-hence the lack of book photo. It’s been so long since I’ve read this one and I really want to go back and reread it. I remember being consumed with this book. I mean, I couldn’t concentrate on ANYTHING else. I don’t remember much about it, other than the main character was named Miles and he was a pilot. When I went to pull it up on Goodreads, I apparently gave it a 4 star rating even though I’ve always considered it my second favorite Colleen Hoover. I’m dying to go back and read it again so I can figure out why I didn’t give it 5 stars!

#1 November 9

My very favorite Colleen Hoover book is November 9. I read it back in 2016 during my gold/ pineapple decor phrase. 😉 Y’all, this book is phenomenal. I absolutely love how everything connects in this story. I thought I knew what I was reading and then something happened that made me think about everything I had read in a new light. Oh my goodness I was blown away by this storyline. I couldn’t put it down and had a book hangover for dayyyyyys. Highly, highly recommend it.

I’d love to hear your favorite Colleen Hoover books! Writing this post has made me want to go back and reread them all. I thought about doing next week’s Friday Five post as 5 books that are similar to CH. Let me know if you’d like to read about that!

What I read this week 🩷📖 It took me all wee What I read this week 🩷📖

It took me all week to read The Favorites by Layne Fargo, which usually means I’m not loving a book, but I’m thrilled that’s not the case with this book! It was just a super busy week for me so I didn’t read as much every day as I wanted, but I absolutely LOVED this book! It releases January 14, so mark your calendars now! I don’t even love figure skating/ ice dancing (honestly I’ve never even heard of this) and I still was obsessed with this book. Highly highly recommend!

Synopsis:

She might not have a famous name, funding, or her family’s support, but Katarina Shaw has always known that she was destined to become an Olympic skater. When she meets Heath Rocha, a lonely kid stuck in the foster care system, their instant connection makes them a formidable duo on the ice. Clinging to skating—and each other—to escape their turbulent lives, Kat and Heath go from childhood sweethearts to champion ice dancers, captivating the world with their scorching chemistry, rebellious style, and roller-coaster relationship.

Until a shocking incident at the Olympic Games brings their partnership to a sudden end.

As the ten-year anniversary of their final skate approaches, an unauthorized documentary reignites the public obsession with Shaw and Rocha, claiming to uncover the “real story” through interviews with their closest friends and fiercest rivals. Kat wants nothing to do with the documentary, but she can’t stand the thought of someone else defining her legacy. So, after a decade of silence, she’s telling her story: from the childhood tragedies that created her all-consuming bond with Heath to the clash of desires that tore them apart. Sensational rumors have haunted their every step for years, but the truth may be even more shocking than the headlines
