Happy Thursday, teacher friends! It’s time to recap the picture books we’ve read this week in our classroom. Last week was heavy on the narrative nonfiction/informational text, so this week we changed things up and went with some fiction stories. So many great titles that I’m excited to share with y’all today. 🙂
I just love this story. Guidance counselors, this one is a MUST HAVE. All kids can relate to Ruby Finds a Worry. This is a perfect text to read when you have a kid who you can tell has something on their mind because the book encourages you to tell someone what you’re going through so your worry will go away. Highly, highly recommend. It’s also good for identifying the difference between figurative and literal-something we learned about back in November, but my kids quickly referred back to during this read aloud-which made me so proud! 🙂
This is a quick story with a great lesson. Can Cat and Bird Be Friends teaches you that you can be totally different from someone, but still find something you both enjoy and becomes friends. I love that this one has a great central message that is told in a quick, engaging way. It’s perfect for days when you have a lot going on and you need a quick, but powerful read aloud.
The Adventures of Beekle deserves all the praise and hype it gets. This is a heartwarming story of an imaginary friend who never find his perfect match so he goes on a journey to a city where he finds his match! This is a magical story.
I have always loved Robert Munsch books, and my kids have always found them humorous, but this year’s group didn’t respond as well as I had expected. It’s funny how some groups really enjoy certain stories and some not so much. Smelly socks is GREAT for teaching figurative language-especially onomatopoeia, alliteration, and hyperbole.
I’m ashamed to admit that I have never read Sam and Dave Dig a Hole. I know, I know! I can’t believe it either. BUT we LOVED this story. We read it on Epic because I didn’t have a physical copy of the book, which I’m so glad we did because the kids were absolutely obsessed with looking at the beginning of the book and comparing it to the end when Sam and Dave fall into (out of?) the hole. We had SO many discussions about this book, friends!
